Red Wine by Achaval Ferrer from Argentina, South America. Achaval Ferrer is a boutique winery, located in the province of Mendoza, Argentina. The winery makes limited amounts of red wines, aiming for the highest quality possible. More than a business, it is a dream, with the idea of joining friends from Argentina and Italy in the task of finding the expression in wine of a great and beautiful place. Winemaker: Roberto Cipresso, partner and winemaker of Achaval-Ferrer. Roberto is considered one of the most talented young Italian enologists by the specialized magazines and press. Vineyard Information: There are three vineyards: Gibson, Vega and Gonzalez Videla. Gibson: Lujan, 65 years, 3140 ft above sea level, 7.5 acres, 2200 per acre, gravel, well-drained Vega: La Consulta, 12 years, 3460 ft above sea level, 15 acres, 1600 per acre, sandy, some volcanic ash, very well drained. Gonzalez Videla: Medrano, 85 years, 2200 ft above sea level, 2600 per acre, heavier soil, some clay, component, traditional furrow irrigation. Rich, with delicious raspberry and macerated currant fruit enlivened by a strong violet aroma and piercing mineral streak. Long, dark, juicy finish is very vivid and racy. Drink now through 2009. -Wine Spectator The entry-level 2007 Malbec (a blend of four vineyards) delivers a superb bouquet of pain grille, mineral, floral notes, and black cherry.
